About

I am a time-based media artist-researcher.  I have done storytelling work with film. video and code, in fiction and non-fiction. I have a bachelor in Communication and a Master in Design Studies.  I work at Universidad Iberoamericana, in the communication department, as head of the media lab.  My hobby involves biodynamic architecture and regenerative construction systems.  I live in Mexico city with Lola and our daughter Camila. We love to grow food and imagine what is a positive change and how to make it happen in our complex world.

Questions

What is the most important question (s) you need to know the answer to at this moment in time to empower you and our communities to reach a future you would be excited to live in?

What are the liberties/rights/freedom that I have to give away for the community to thrive? What are the liberties/rights/freedom that the community will grant/provide to me as an individual?  How can we change our social agreements to achieve a better balance between both the individual and the collective?  Note that what I mean by collective is the whole socio-ecological planetary system… understanding that we have first to work at the human to human scale

What exactly do you do and why?

I am a storytelling designer, teacher, researcher, artist. I believe our socio-ecological value system is engrained in the stories we tell, so, in order to have a better value system I believe we need better storytelling and story listening.  Design is the perfect tool because it is useful for analysis-critique and synthesis-creation.

What is your unique perspective or superpower?

I feel I am good at system thinking, so can I integrate a lot of considerations into a design process. Also, I agree with process philosophy and practice second-order cybernetics whenever I can (not as often as I would like).
